In the early part of 2012 a new lounge extension was added to the main ground floor in Bethany, where a high level of care is provided for residents with more complex needs.
The Emmaus lounge is specifically designed to cater for those who have memory problems. The lounge is furnished in a style reminiscent of that in which the elderly would have lived much of their early adult life. Staff are constantly present in this area of the home, assisting the residents in their daily living, eating meals with them and discreetly overseeing things.
There is a very traditional kitchen facility in one corner and items of interest around the room, with the main focus on encouraging everyone to keep occupied. Patio doors open out into a secure garden area which includes a green house, where the residents can enjoy fresh air and activity in a safe environment in the warmer months.
